Student-run clinics are a way for medical students to gain valuable interprofessional skills while practicing in a safe environment. These clinics, which are typically free or low cost, provide disease-specific treatment to patients who are uninsured, underinsured, or underserved. Although there are over 152 student-run clinics nationwide, there is limited representation of occupational therapy. This project aimed to establish a student-run occupational therapy (OT) clinic in partnership with Matthew 25, to allow a unique level 1 fieldwork opportunity for students at Huntington University’s occupational therapy program. My site for the project was Huntington University’s Fort Wayne campus. The main objectives of this project included designing a Standard Operating Procedures Manual and designing an event plan for a launching event of the student-run clinic. Other outcomes included training in program management and leadership, designing a scope of work documents, interviewing healthcare professionals, initiating the structure of the pro bono OT student board, gaining perspective on the perceived academic benefits of the student-run clinic, developing a budget plan, and creating materials for distribution to stakeholders. Key deliverables included a manual, event plan, presentations, outlines, social media posts, intervention guides, documents, and certifications. The project resulted in a manual and an event plan for future OT students to implement as well as sustainability of a successfully student-run clinic. The project aimed to provide equitable services and opportunities to those in the local community and allow experiential learning in students to promote good and exhibit concern for others.
