Abstract
  • Occupational therapy practitioners commonly work in emergency departments abroad, however, demonstrate limited to no encounters with ED patients in the United States. Past research highlights unmet functional needs in patients post ED discharge, potentially increasing re-admission risks. With limited research on OTs contribution in EDs when reducing re-admission rates and recent emphasis placed on the reduction of hospital re-admission by the CMS, the purpose of this study is to determine whether the inclusion of occupational therapy services in the ED has the potential to decrease hospital re-admission rates.
