Abstract
  • Ergonomics is described as fitting the workstation to a person to decrease the risk of injury and increase overall quality of life. Adding an occupational therapy perspective provides a unique and holistic view of a job and how best to prioritize a worker’s overall health and wellness while still benefiting the employer by increasing productivity and decreasing health costs. The purpose of this capstone project was to increase knowledge and training in ergonomics and health and wellness, and then apply ergonomic principles to the industrial workplace setting at the Vera Bradley distribution center in Roanoke, IN. The project built off of previous capstone projects and resulted in key deliverables including standardized ergonomic assessments to complete all job assessments in the shipping department, providing a comprehensive analysis of overall job risks with prioritization of recommendations, and providing additional educational materials regarding ergonomic tips and health and wellness guidelines for the associates. The risk analysis and materials created will provide Vera Bradley with data-supported recommendations to continue pursuing a Zero Harm workplace which eliminates exposure to risk for all associates.
